I hope you all are enjoying what is left of your weekend! Mine was great....for the most part:
We started it off by heading to downtown Houston for the annual International Festival. There we met some of our friends for a wonderful afternoon.
Once we had seen all of the festival several times we decided to explore the area. It is funny how even when you have lived somewhere your whole life there are still things you have yet to see. One of those places was Lucky Strike, a very hip bowling alley. The picture above gives a clue as to who won the game...it was not I! :( Not that I am a sore loser...too much.
Our weekend took a different direction later in the night when Barkley dislocated his knee. My poor fuzzy son was in too much pain to wait until the morning so we spent several hours at the pet ER. Thankfully I am happy to report that after his medication the vet believes he will heal properly. Fingers crossed!
Sorry for the bad joke, but I couldn't help myself! Ever since Pantone picked Tangerine Tango as the color of the year we have been overloaded with orange. I personally happen to enjoy the vivid color so I am very happy with their decision. Looking to indulge in the trend? Here are a few of my picks:
Nothing says happy like cute little animal faces, so to start your day off right I present to you:
Now just try and tell me those didn't make you smile! :)
Another thing that makes me happy is helping a great cause. Saturday we did just that at the zoo for the annual Houston Stroll for Epilepsy benefiting the Epilepsy Foundation of Texas. Over $223,000 was raised to help send children with epilepsy to summer camp at no cost to their families. We had a great morning at the zoo and hopefully in turn many children will have a wonderful time this summer as well.
If you are like me and live in an area often plagued with humidity then you know first hand what an annoyance it can be. Time spend primping on your hair can prove useless the moment you step outside. Not to worry as there are alternatives to the frizzy horrors that humidity brings:
The day as popular for superstitions as it is for Hollywood gore. Are our superstitions surrounding this day unwarranted? Apparently so as statistically fewer accidents happen on Fridays that fall on the 13TH, perhaps due to people being more careful or shall I say paranoid.
While I have never been particularly scared of the 13TH falling on a Friday I do have a few superstitions:
It is my belief that some people get out of control during a full moon. This includes mood swings, temperamental behavior and just downright crappy to have to deal with. Perhaps the fine folks who manufacture PMS medication could come up with a solution for this condition.
While I love haunted history I will never spend the night somewhere that I have heard haunted stories about. This is also why I will never spend the night in San Antonio again. Who wants to wake up with a lady wearing Victorian gear looking at them? On a side note, why is it always a lady dressed from the Victorian era and a man in a military uniform when haunted stories are passed down?
Never will I touch a voodoo doll or Ouija board. NEVER!
I will not watch a show about spooky places or a scary movie in my house.
Rabbit's feet freak me out. How can they be considered lucky? If they were would not the rabbit still be attached to it?!
What are you superstitious about? Surely this cutie above doesn't freak you out...or does it?
Generally I am not the type of person to let things get me down. The past few weeks however I had a big case of the dumps. I ran across the above statement from Winston Churchill last week and thought enough is enough. No longer will I allow negative people to invade my thoughts. From here on out it is all rainbows and unicorns! LOL! But seriously life is too great to ever let others make you feel inferior or insecure about your abilities! Go out and be your awesome selves!
As a child I remember getting a new dress every year for Easter Sunday school. They always had the same characteristics: frilly, pastel and a voluminous skirt. While the Betsey Johnson dresses below may not be the best choice for your Easter place of worship they would be perfect for a celebration after.
I LOVE vintage trunks and suitcases. Where have they been? To whom did they belong? I suppose my love of travel makes them very exciting little pieces of adventure to me.
Well Saturday when I walked into my newest obsession,Restoration Hardware, I was immediately head over heels for one of their pieces....
The Mayfair Steamer Secretary Trunk Vintage Cigar Leather! Perfectly sized home office! A place for everything so that you stay organized at all times. All wrapped up in a vintage inspired trunk! And while unlike a suitcase you may not be able to take it along with you on a whim, you could certainly take a seat and write adventures of your own in the confines of its walls! So my style, but unfortunately I have no place for this beauty right now. Do you think the fine folks at Restoration Hardware would mind if I just moved in? I'm very neat and I wouldn't have to bring the entire wardrobe along. ;)
