Taking it Back...

One of my all time favorite songs is Black, originally by Pearl Jam. It was during my high school years when the whole Seattle grunge scene started and that song was at the top of the list for me.

This version is by Aaron Lewis from Staind. One of my favorite songs being covered by one of my favorite singers. Sounds good to me! Enjoy!

Happy Monday

Happy Monday everyone!

Nothing makes me happier than rock music and it gets me through most Mondays! I have many favorites, one of them being The Rolling Stones. Long have I professed my love for Keith Richards and his ability to keep on ticking despite the fact that he has lived a VERY full life!
This weekend I found the coolest tee! Now I can proudly wear Keith and show the world my feelings for this rock legend. :)

What gets you through Monday's?

Halloween Weekend Recap

Finally I have caught up on my sleep enough to catch my blog up on the Halloween festivities! I promised I would come bearing pictures so here goes...

Before heading out I made a few minor adjustments to my Mad Hatter costume. Adding boots and removing a jacket that was included made it much more concert ready!

After leaving Houston Friday morning, then passing through San Francisco we landed in Reno, Nevada. The mountain views were gorgeous from our room at the Grand Sierra Resort.

My friend Shyanne flew in from New Mexico for the weekend as well and we started off our trip by gambling in downtown. We all lost! :( LOL!

Gabe is giving the slot machine a piece of his mind for taking his moolah!

The slot machines can make your head spin after awhile.

Thankfully we had other ways to spend the better part of our Saturday! The last Papa Roach show of their Monsters of Annihilation tour was that night.

Gabe and I dressed up for the show. Here I am with the pimp daddy himself. LOL!

Of course I can't chronicle a Papa Roach show without adding a couple of pictures of the guys themselves! Here I am with them making fun of me for blinking! LOL! I love those goofballs.

Here we all are during meet and greet. Not sure why I look six months pregnant here, but rest assured I am not! ;)
We had an amazing weekend of costumes, friends, awesome music, parties, meeting great new people and travel.

Now it is your turn! I want to hear all about your Halloween fun!

So I Have Been Missing in Action

...but I have been having a great time! This week we traveled to Wichita, KS and Tulsa, OK to see Papa Roach. As always I can not say enough about how awesome these guys are to see live and how great they are to everyone that comes out to meet them. Photobucket
Myself, Tobin, Tony, Diana, Jagger, Jacoby, Kaylee, Jerry and Gabriel

Shyanne, Elsa, myself and Diana.
The Texas girls, some who are not in this pic, and Gabe took up almost the entire front row of the pit. This is our after picture! :) We had such a blast from chatting with the guys, to pretending our car had broken down so we could sneak ten people in the secured bus area and meeting new friends. Now the countdown begins to do it all again!

I have been so exhausted since I have been home that I haven't had a chance to say hello to you all so I hope all is going well with everyone. Fill me in on what is new in your part of the world!

Weekend Recap

Hi everyone! I hope your week is ending on a great note! We just got home from taking my mom out so I wanted to catch up with you all. We have had a week full of celebrations, festivals and great times.

One particularly great time was Tuesday when we had the opportunity to meet one of my favorite bands Papa Roach:
Photobucket

I have met many bands and sometimes as real people they do not live up to your expectations. I must say that Tony, Jerry, Jacoby and Tobin exceeded how cool and down to earth I thought they would be. Such awesome guys! And as always their show did not disappoint!

I am all tired out from the week's festivities, but I wanted to stop for a moment and say hello to everyone before I spend a restful Sunday night...well resting up for the long week ahead! :) I also wanted to say Happy Mother's Day to all to whom it applies!

I hope you are all having a lovely day!
Fill me in on how you celebrated!

What is Wrong in the Universe When

as I am watching the Grammy arrivals I look at Lady Gaga and think oh ok, I get it she wants us to talk about her:

Then I see Britney and think...

what the....!!! Britney put some clothes on. You are never going to convince everyone that you have got it together when you are wearing Frederick's of Hollywood on the red carpet! Your hair and makeup look great though! Lord how I wish I could take this girl shopping. She needs a shopaholics expertise.

On a serious note, did you guys watch the tribute to Michael Jackson? His kids were so cute and well spoken. Their dad certainly raised great children.

Random Thoughts of the Day

I must be getting old! Tuesday night we went to the Papa Roach show after work, which meant I only got four hours of sleep before work the next morning. Ten years ago that would not have been a problem, but now two days later I am still feeling sleep deprived! It was so worth it, though! If you like rock music and have never seen them live you must do so! Their singer Jacoby is the most energetic performer I have ever seen and is just amazing to watch. Such a great night we had!

When did Brad Pitt become 60....and Amish? And if Brad did become Amish do they approve of Angelina Jolie? I mean, sure she helps so many people now, but I am pretty sure they wouldn't be a fan of her past!

I saw this picture on Go Fug Yourself. For some reason lately I keep forgetting to visit that site, but I must start checking it out more often. Call me awful, but I just love their catty commentary on the wardrobes of the celebrities! Come on Claire Danes, when you go out wearing a sheer dress you are asking to be a Fug feature!

It is that time again! People magazine has once again told us who we think should be the sexiest men alive. Sorry to any Johnny Depp fans, but I disagree with their coverboy. He always looks so unkempt...and greasy! Do they not have showers in France? I know he has been spending a lot of time there and since doing so looks a lot dirtier than he did circa 21 Jump Street. That couldn't possibly be the case, though, since I have not seen other French people look so unclean. Plus, if French people didn't have showers why would everyone flock to Paris? No sorry, Johnny I have tried to justify it, but you are just oily for no reason and for that I can not agree with your sexy status.

Now something I can agree on...

that cutie Robert Downey Jr. Such a great actor and I am so glad that he seems to really have his life together.

David Beckham also made an appearance on the list, as did Ryan Reynolds, the Glee guys, Bradley Cooper and several others. For the full list check out People.

This Is It

Yesterday Gabe and I went to see Michael Jackson's This Is It. If you get a chance to see it while it is still in the theater it is definitely worth your time. Michael Jackson was truly an artist and he put his hand in every single aspect of his show. It was really interesting to see it all take shape.
The documentary focused on the tour he was working on. It showed everything from choosing the dancers and getting the stage and songs ready. You could see how happy he was to be working on a show again. I kept thinking that if he had to pass away so young it was at least a good thing he was able to do something he loved so much right beforehand.
Had he been able to do the tour it would have been a must see event. His voice sounded great, the dancers were amazing and the videos that they did to play as backdrops for the stage were awesome. Unfortunately, he didn't even get to perform the first show, but This Is it is a wonderful way for all of their hard work to not be in vain. He had so much talent and was such a gracious man. What I took away from the movie the most was that he was always willing to work hard and was respectful when trying to get others to see things in a different way. When he would ask someone to change something he would always end with the statement, "God bless you."
God bless you Michael Jackson. May you rest in peace.

Weekend Recap

Labor Day Graphics @ Cute-Spot.com

I hope you all are doing just that and enjoying your day! I had a great day going out with my friends and their beautiful baby girl. After that Gabe and I went shopping for Halloween costumes. We are having a party this year and thought the sooner we started looking the better the selection will be. Though I haven't fully committed to one yet, I think the Medusa costume is the front runner.

The rest of my weekend unfortunately was not as enjoyable as today. My sinus infection is apparently back to stay thanks to the lovely air quality in Houston. That is enough to ruin a few days, but the loveliness continued.

Saturday, after smelling something electrical burning and my lights flickering in my office, the breaker went off for that room. After calling out an electrician who arrived at midnight, he realized that the fixture in my office was to blame. The wonderful people, I type while rolling my eyes, who put up our fixtures left the wires touching the screws in the ceiling. Apparently every time we were turning on the switch the wiring was slowly melting. Thank God our breaker went off! I was upset over the $400+ dollars it is costing me to fix this, but as I was watching the coverage of the fires in California it put my little problems into perspective. It could have been much worse!

Last night we went to the House of Blues. We had been looking forward to going to see The Cult, especially Billy Duffy who is one of my favorite guitar players. Unfortunately, like the start of my weekend, things didn't turn out quite like I had hoped. It started out with some girl who had about ten drinks too many giving me advice on life. For some reason I don't think that someone who more than likely will not even be able to get themselves home is the person I need to learn life lessons from. Then I got hit in the head from some really tall guy trying to get a guitar pick from the opening band. No one even knew who the heck they were! I would have been more than happy to hand him the guitar pick rather than get hit in the noggin!

Once The Cult started playing it went from bad to really bad! Billy Duffy's guitar wasn't sounding right. He spent the entire night throwing a fit about that. I completely understand the need to sound great, but if he wanted a reason to throw a fit, try standing around for two hours with a drunk chick accidentally spitting on you while slurring her words, squished between hundreds of people with no security in sight and getting hit in the head by some man! That my friend Billy, will give you reason to act a fool!

About thirty minutes before the show was set to end, yet another drunk chick pushed into Gabe. Following her was her drunk boyfriend. Gabe went to get the guy off of him and the guy started getting defensive. When he shoved into the man that was standing next to us, that man, apparently also disgusted with the crowd of the night started to go after him. Here we are in the very front up against the railing getting shoved, no security and the other fool onlookers would not move out of the way! That was Gabe and my last straw! While the other two guys started to go at it we decided that was our cue to get the heck out of that place! We shoved our way through the onlookers so forcefully I am surprised we didn't get into a fight! I don't' know why people will stand there and watch a drunken fight, yet don't understand the words "MOVE, I am getting squished"!

As we were leaving the House of Blues, vowing never to go back due to the fact that we felt very unsafe for lack of security, I had to ponder the question: Am I too old to go to these places or am I just to old to keep dealing with people's crap?

Anywho! I hope you all had a very safe and happy labor day!

Weekend Recap-Visting Dallas

Hi everyone! I hope you had a great weekend! I have been out of town and am just now having a chance to update here.

We just got home from Dallas. Here is where I would insert the music from the TV show if I knew how to do that type of thing! Mental note-buy Blogging for Dummies so I can figure out how to add cute music. Anyway, back to the weekend talk.

We stayed at the Hyatt Regency in downtown. It was in a great centralized location. Yeah for Hyatt points as well which helped me to get one of the nights free. With the economy the way it is a freebie is always a good thing!

Friday we walked around downtown. I have been to Dallas several times, but have not spent as much time there as I have in most of the other larger Texas cities, like Austin and San Antonio. While being in a place you don't know quite as well leads to seeing new things, it also drives me crazy to not know directions. Thank God for Tom Tom!

We visited the site where JFK was shot outside of the Texas School Book Depository. Walking into the depository was very surreal knowing that the Lee Harvey Oswald once walked in that very building with a mission to complete. Such a sad history in that small block!

Later that night we met up with our friends Pam and Bill and had a chance to meet their beautiful children. I don't know why I didn't get some pictures for my blog while out that night, but we went to a cool place close by our hotel. Great friends, great food and a funny piano guy=a great Friday night!

Saturday we went to Cruefest 2. While I really enjoyed the lineup much more last year for the first Cruefest, I still had a great time. We were fortunate enough to have front row in the pit. I always laugh at the girls who come in at the last minute and think that they are going to bully their way into the very front. I had to prove to one girl that while I may have been a third of her size I am very determined! After trying to squeeze me out of my spot for about twenty minutes she finally gave up! Good riddance!

Sunday was not very eventful. We just drove back home trying to stay awake from the night before. Are we getting too old for seven hour concerts? Hmm.. I most certainly hope not! ;)

Weekend Recap

Friday:
After weeks of working overtime we finally had a Friday off and I took full advantage of it! Getting to spend the morning watching Good Morning America and the midday shopping may seem a little boring, but it made me perfectly happy. Friday night was a little more colorful:

Since my work outfits generally revolve around denim, I love getting to dress up. This weekend the occasion was the return of Cirque Du Soleil to our town.

This time the show was Saltimbanco. I love the Cirque Du Soleil shows. Each one is different, but they are all amazing in their own right. If you have never seen one of them I highly recommend that you do. They have many shows that tour the world as well as shows that are stationed in one location such as Orlando or Vegas to name a few.

Saturday:
Poor Gabriel spent Saturday at the dentist office and since he has a huge phobia about the dentist I spent three hours at the foot of his chair as he was getting four cavities filled. Although I had a stiff neck from sitting there so long reading the coffee table book they had about the architecture of castles, I was much better off than Gabe. He was not feeling so hot so we spent the rest of the afternoon and night at home. Barkley was happy since that meant I had plenty of time to play catch with his new toy:

(He is now missing an arm after the catch portion of our night).

Sunday:

This morning was spent doing boring routine things like grocery shopping. I have realized one thing on my quest to get in shape. When I go to the grocery store and do not try to purchase healthy things my total may add up to be around $75. Then on days like today, when I am trying to get in shape, my groceries end up being $125!

We ended up at the park since it was a very nice, albeit hot, day.

This area was largely affected by Hurricane Ike, but happily things are starting to look back to normal.

The weekend is coming to a close like many of those before it-with Barkley pooped and ready for us to get back to work on Monday so he can get some rest!

42ND Street

I hope you all had a terrific weekend! Thankfully, I didn't have to work Saturday like I thought I was going to have to. Instead I was able to sleep late for the first time in FOREVER and spend a night out at the park. Luckily the 100+ degree weather did not seem as bad since there was a nice breeze!

One of our local parks has an outdoor theater and offers some really great shows every year. We saw 42ND Street. I really enjoyed the story and the costumes were so cute. It was set in the late 30's which is an era in fashion that I adore. I love seeing musicals and the fact that our city offers them for free at this location makes it even nicer.

The American Music Awards...My Unsolicited Review

First, let me say that I was bored out of my freaking mind! Jimmy Kimmel did make me chuckle a time or two, but all in all I found it pretty uninspiring. They may not always be pretty or nice, but here are some thoughts I had while watching the show:

Why???? And I don't mean T-Pain's outfit. Why does someone with no talent and a record that sold like 10 copies keep showing up EVERYWHERE! I could see if she had a show on ABC that they were trying to promote, but thank God that it not the case! Please, the powers that be find someone with talent to put on television!

Could they have possibly found someone a little closer to David Archuleta's height? I don't know if he is old enough to have hit his growth spurt yet, but they barely fit in the same frame!

Why did they pair cute, wholesome looking Colbie Caillat with Richie Sambora? Hey, I will admit I was a huge Bon Jovi fan circa 1988, but Richie is rough! Not rough around the edges, but rough through and through! Put Colbie next to someone nice and sweet, like maybe that cutie from Lifehouse! She has so far not turned into to a crazy starlet, aka Lindsey, Paris, etc., etc. We need to keep her that way!

Let me first add a positive before a negative, just to keep my karma in check! I LOVE Motley Crue. I have always, well at least since I was 12, and will continue to do so. Nikki Sixx is my absolute favorite rock dude and Tommy Lee is one of the coolest guys ever. Vince Neil, eh, whatever and Mick gets my Keith Richards award for having the ability to take a licking and keep on ticking.

However, my guys of the Crue, let me ask just two questions to the two of you that I really care the most about. Tommy, dear, did you go out swimming and get bit by a shark? Perhaps, you did and didn't have time to run home and change and just decided that if you wore said shark to the AMA's Kid Rock would see how bad you were and leave you alone for good!

Nikki, the beautiful one, I am down with your rocker look. I was with you when you wore makeup, more makeup than I even own,(which is a LOT). Why, though, Nikki do you look like you are trying to steal Keith Richards part on Pirates of the Caribbean? I love you Nikki, but my love for Keith is very well documented so don't think that just because you are cute you can steal that movie away from Keith and I am not going to have something to say about it.

Why do these two girls have record deals? While Taylor Swift seems like a perfectly wholesome girl, (sorry Miley, no nice words for you, you annoy me), she can not sing. The lack of singing also goes for Billy Ray's spawn. Thank God for Alicia Keys, Leona Lewis and Mariah or my ears would have been bleeding.

Did Mariah get a new stylist? Or did her new hubby tire of her showing her everything to everyone? Well, whatever it is that has brought about this change I salute you Mariah. You looked really nice. You also proved me wrong, because I really thought that at any moment you were going to rip off the pretty dress to reveal something too short and too tight.

Now I have this question-was Mariah's old stylist, the one she obviously fired as she looked great last night, hired to hooch up Beyonce? Beyonce, there is never a good reason to run out of your room without your pants on. That is why people have a common nightmare about that very situation. The only thing that I could possibly fathom is that maybe you just got a contract with Hanes. Even if that is true I think there are more appropriate places that you could model their underwear for them. You are from Houston. I know for a fact that there are MANY, MANY stores that sell jeans, dress slacks and skirts there. There is a whole plethora of outfit choices out there. You have NO excuse for going out in your knickers, absolutely none, nada, zip!

Why does anyone think that any of us care about these people? Sorry Nick, you seem like a great guy, but you always pick THE worst girls, so I am over seeing you as well!

Are they going to be able to get back upright without help? As hard as they try to make us believe, they are not new or kids.

Did her son get a hold of scissors and do something really drastic to her hair?

I really think Ne-Yo has a very good voice. Once he was on Cribs and he had a very nice house. I thought it was very tastefully decorated beyond his years, (hey, I'm into design so I had to throw that in). I also once read that he bought his mom a house, which I think is a great thing. However, did I need to be subjected to Ne-Yo doing Chris Brown, doing Usher, doing Michael Jackson. Please, you guys, try to be more original. You are in a CREATIVE field, use that creativity in your performances.

When I saw Scott Weiland from a distance, I thought, "Oh, he is looking much better. Maybe he has finally cleaned up his act". Then he started talking. Enough said.

Well, they always say that if you are going into a career as a singer that you should have something to fall back on. I guess they are just preparing themselves for that.

I would like to go out on a positive note. I thought Jordan Sparks looked really cute. The yellow dress fit her personality perfectly and was a great, unexpected color in the fall. She looked really cute and had a great smile. Enrique Iglesias wasn't half bad either. He may have quite possibly just woken up from a deep slumber, but he still looks cute either way!
