Disney's California Adventure

When Uncle Sam surprised us with a tax refund, after I stressed all year that we would have to pay, we decided to take a trip to Disneyland for my birthday. 

Really is there a better way to spend your day than eating mouse shaped ice cream and immersing yourself in all things Disney? 

While much of California Adventure is under construction until this summer a couple of new rides have already opened, such as The Little Mermaid. They also have Soarin' Over California here which is one of my favorites from all of the Disney parks. 

At night the parks are even more spectacular. 

The World of Color is the nighttime show for California Adventure. Think the Bellagio dancing water fountains, mixed with vivid colors,  add in Disney classics, lasers and fire and you have The World of Color. 

This park has gotten a lot of flak since its opening in 2001 for basically being built just to be built during the Eisner years. It was criticized for not being designed up to Disney standards and missing the timeless appeal of their other parks. Currently in the process of a $1.1 billion expansion to be completed this June the park has a lot of promise. While at present time I wouldn't go to the Disneyland Resort just to go to this particular park, I do think that in conjunction with Disneyland and Downtown Disney that California Adventure provides  a fun and entertaining atmosphere. 

And Here it is Again...

The day that each year leaves me full of cake, appreciative for my thoughtful cards and gifts..and also contemplating botox. It's my birthday! I am out celebrating, but I promise to post pictures soon! 

Michael Jackson The Immortal World Tour by Cirque du Soleil

Last week I had the chance to catch the Cirque du Soleil show that was created in honor of Michael Jackson. 

Being a huge fan of Cirque du Soleil and growing up watching Michael Jackson I expected it to be full of amazing music and great dancing. Of course they delivered on those fronts, but gave so much more. The performance did not sugarcoat the negatives of Michael's life at all as they showed a younger version longing for his childhood and the adult version amidst paparazzi. During those parts anyone with a soft heart was left crying and wondering if his life would have been different had his father not forced him into the business. 

Not to worry though..the sadness was short lived as another uptempo beat would start and lead into one of his many classics. It definitely gave a complete overview of his life and made it clear as to why he is worthy of having his own show, if anyone was doubtful. Overall it was a fantastic show that intertwined ideas that Michael had wished to incorporate into the tour he was planning right before his death with the gorgeous costumes and talented performers that make up Cirque du Soleil. 

This is a touring show and is making stops across the US and overseas throughout the year. If you have the opportunity to see it I highly recommend it!

Happy Monday

Happy once you get over this one the rest are all uphill from here day! 

Where will the day take you? The countdown is on for my vacation! I can make it. I can do this!!!! And if the going gets tough there is always a bottle of unopened Advil in my purse!

Welcome Back...

ME!!!! 

For the past week this has been my life..

Amoxicillin, Halls and the Ellen Show. (On a side note thanks to Ellen for replaying the David Beckham H&M ad over and over. I thought of it as a get well gift from the universe!). While sitting around with an earache, viral infection and general yuckiness I had several self realizations:

1. After having a dream that someone was breaking in the house I woke up not sure if the intruder was real or a dream. Being so out of it I sat there thinking that if it were indeed a true break in that they would just have to come in because I was too tired to run fast. This brought me to the conclusion that I need to start my exercise regimen back. 

2. I may perhaps be..ok this is hard and I can't believe I am going to say it..not the best puppy mom ever. I may in fact be an enabler. The vet seems to think Barkley is overweight. I cover his ears when she spouts these words because who wants a puppy with an eating disorder. There were days while I was home all week that the fuzzy wanted to go outside to bark at the neighbors dog. Instead I enticed him back to a lovely level of quietness by giving him treats. Several times. Several days. 

3. I also realized that I need to pay closer attention to details. Who knew Halls cough drops talk to you now?  Well not talk, I was not THAT out of it, but they have "a pep talk in every drop". I realize that these are supposed to be words of encouragement, but some of them are questionable when one is ill. "You got it in you"-well I certainly hope so. Who wants to croak from an earache? That doesn't even make for an exciting story! "Flex your can do muscle"-I am not familiar with that muscle, but I am quiet sure it was just as tired as my legs were,(see above story about possible home invasion). "Put a little strut in it". How pray tell can one strut if they can't even put on their shoes? 

4. No offense to Halls, but I also realized that retail therapy is better than any pep talk. So I purchased the Pantone scarf by Tolani: 

Well I am kidding no one with that realization, retail therapy is not new to moi, but those little color swatches and the overall cheery feel of this made me smile. And bonus it will look great with everything.
